How to restore Classic Search in Windows XP

I really hate the true search box, and it took me awhile to find a way to restore good old classic search box. Here is the info. Hope you guys enjoy it.


How to restore Classic Search in Windows XP


This will allow you get go back to Windows XP's Classic Search instead of using Windows Search.

1.
Update Registry
Open Notepad and copy the following text:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FFAC7A18-EDF9-40DE-BA3F-49FC2269855E}\TreatAs]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"WebFindBandHook"="{68F2D3FC-8366-4a46-8224-58EFA2749425}"
"FileFindBandHook"="{FFAC7A18-EDF9-40de-BA3F-49FC2269855E}"

2.
Save .reg file
Make sure your view settings are set to not hide file extensions. Save the file as ClassicSrchRestore.reg.

3.
Merge the .reg file
Double-click on the file you just created. Click on yes when prompted.

4.
Un-register Windows Desktop Search
Run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "%programfiles%\Windows Desktop Search\wdsShell.dll"

5.
Test your search
Right-click on My Computer, a drive or a folder and select Search. You should now see the Classic Search.

Conclusion
These steps will allow you to quickly and easily restore the Classic Search to Windows XP. If anyone finds this useful or finds a better/easier way to accomplish this, please let me know.
